Next Monday 100 workers start on the St Joseph river dam four miles from Mishawaka with W H Long in charge. Machinery including pile drivers steam hammers and jig cranes arrives as the Joseph Elkhart Power Co expects to complete the dam by fall.
Thursday and Friday filings with Recorder Peddycard show nine mortgages and three releases, plus multiple transfers of Elkhart Goshen and Allendale properties. Deals include Charlotte Van Tillberg and Catherine Newman on Elkhart lots, City National Bank to Mary Fieldhouse, and Heinz other parcels in Benton Elkhart Middlebury and Baugo.
Washington Reninger of Bristol wandered from home last Wednesday under a belief he was mesmeric. He was found Saturday morning in a weak, exhausted state in Elkhart while being escorted by Bristol marshal J. B. Shutt. The last ten days of cold weather have damaged fruit prospects. Apples, plums, and pears are sparse and knotty, strawberries are mostly small though later berries may ripen, peaches seem less affected, grapes show little damage, and cherries could still be fair.
Mrs. Isaac Beitman of Wabash died after six months of unconsciousness. She lost consciousness on December 12 and could not take nourishment. Despite regular feeding, she remained still with eyes open. Autopsy found all organs healthy but an abscess on the brain.
Charles Walley planted 10000 bass in Hagle lake yesterday from the State Fisheries of Michigan in care of Perry Turner. Fewer than 50 died and the rest were in excellent condition, planted carefully by Walley and Henry French from the lake.
Goshen police continue pursuit of Louis F. Shank who is wanted for forgery. Last week hundreds of circular letters were sent to New Mexico and other distant points with Shank's picture and a small reward on offer for his arrest. No location has been found yet.

Health officials reported the Miller family at 329 East Jackson Street remained quarantined after several members including Mrs. Miller and her children contracted varioloid. Dr. Hoppingarner confirmed smallpox while Dr. Ash endorsed the polio? smallpox diagnosis. Frank Hite and Henry Schreiner also under quarantine with others showing exposure concerns. The move to tighten guards followed discovery and evolving spread among the household and two boarders.
