Henry Hunt, a Leake Shore boiler maker of St. Joe street, fell from train No. 23 near Mishawaka depot after mishearing a brakeman’s call. He lost his right foot, had it amputated above the ankle, and was treated by Drs. Bowman and Niman. The 58 year old had visited Chicago relatives with two daughters. The foot was buried at Grace Lawn cemetery. Judge Wilson adjourned court to next Wednesday with jurors named. Civil cases to follow, then summer vacation.

Rice Thompson files foreclosure suit in Elkhart circuit court against Josiah Mock and Addie Mock. Thompson loaned $501.50 at 8 percent in February 1898 to Josiah Mock. A Sunday forenoon wreck at Pine station on the Lake Store railway demolished nine cars of a sand and coke train and severely damaged both tracks requiring 500 ties for repairs.
