Rail line owners file largest ever Elkhart county mortgage

Chicago, South Bend and Northern Railway, newly owning the Indiana lines, filed a 5 million dollar first mortgage gold bond trust deed in favor of Central Trust Co of New York. The $7.5 million company formation, dated January 28, seeks funds for expansion, power facilities, and bond retentions.

Samuel Miracle Named General Manager for Chico End Line

Samuel Miracle of LaFayette will assume general manager duties for the Chico end line on February 10 and will base the office in South Bend. SAM Murdock J McM Smith will shift to oversee the Michigan line from South Bend to Sir Joseph, while Goshen to South Bend work remains. The Northern Indiana interurban extension from St Joseph to Grand Rapids is planned with no changes in station agents conductors or other staff.

Injuries Fatal To John M Tavernier at Clarke Hospital

John M Tavernier of 1109 Marion Street died at 6 this morning in Clarke Hospital after a fall injured his spine. He had previously dislocated both ankles last April and never fully recovered. He is survived by his wife Ocelia, son Oscar, three daughters Anna Ellen and Catherine, five brothers Martin Henry Lewis Ed and George, and sister Mrs Tena Lantz. Funeral arrangements set for Sunday.

Repeal of Metropolitan Police Law Gains House Support

Capt John Cummins died suddenly and his funeral was held at St John s Episcopal with Elmer Post G A R in charge. Members from LP C Hils lodge Knights of Pythias B of L E Wahien organizations attended as escorts. Rev Charles W Champlin led the service at Grace Lawn cemetery with G A R ritual. Trumpet Notes band headed the funeral procession.
