Turkey famine hits Elkhart markets as birds sell out

Elkhart shoppers faced turkey shortages forcing substitutions with chickens and ducks. Markets sold out before noon with only one uptown shop holding a small, reserved supply for regular customers at 20 cents a pound, while geese and other poultry moved quickly.

Master Mechanic Foster Orders Lake Shore Round Houses on Full Time

Master Mechanic O M Foster of Elkhart announces all round houses in Englewood Elkhart Toledo Fort Wayne Adrian and Detroit switch to full time at once to handle higher Lake Shore traffic. The plan raises daily hours from eight or nine to ten and boosts the force by fifteen percent affecting over 590 workers, with Elkhart the largest site.

William Franklin Arrested After High Speed Chase

William Franklin colored of the Calvin colony fourteen miles north of Elkhart was pursued by police in an automobile after a reckless Christmas shopping trip. His rig overturned near Jackson street, and he was captured after a long chase with Sergeant Rinehart and officers From the night force. He faced charges as his wife and child awaited at home.
