Charles Rushton died in Mexico from acute dysentery and his body may not be moved under Mexican law. Officials including Senator Beveridge and Governor Dorbin sought state department help to secure possible local burial or return in a sealed casket.

M E church set December 20 and 21 for third quarterly meeting at Lamarac. Mr. and Mrs. L Crooks return from Chicago wedding tour. Rev. Shannon visited Rev. Herron. Ada Michael of Bango visited H Doolittle family. Sermon at M E B church Sunday morning on The Cradle. J Huple and wife hosted friends here last week. Sunday school plans a Christmas tree for Christmas Eve.

Beebee and wife transfer part of lot 102 in Cham berlain's second addition Goshen to B Tobias Julian and Flora for 1 dollar and exchange of other real estate. Vinvelia and John Carman sell a small parcel in Osolo township to Willis C. McCoy and Salome for 900 dollars. Briggsdale Improvement company sells lot 134 Briggsdale Elkhart to Walter and Bertha C. Brown for 200 dollars. George W. Fager and wife transfer 2 acres in Union township to Rachel Loney for 775 dollars. Jacob S. Watters and wife sell a lot in Nappanee to Milo A Plyly for 750 dollars.
Rumors in political circles warn that if redistricting is attempted by the next legislature, Congressman Brick aims to head off any potential opposition to his renomination in 1904.
Reports say Congressman L. W. Royse of Warsaw will seek to remove Kosciusko county from the thirteenth district. Potentially Kosciusko could join the Twelfth or be swapped with Jasper, or Kosciusko along with Fulton and Pulaski counties might be cut off to form a new district including Elkhart Marshall Starke Fulton St. Joseph Porter and Lake counties.
Charles Fish and wife transfer residence to Henry B. Sykes and wife for an annuity of 1000 dollars yearly for their lifetimes, the grantees to be paid as long as either survives. Nathan Cockrun longtime Elkhart resident died yesterday afternoon at his home 303 East Jackson Street at age 58 after a period of illness. He was an old soldier and a member of the G A R. Funeral services will be held tomorrow at 2 pm from the family home conducted by Rev. Light. He leaves a widow and one son Newton J Cockrun a local teamster.
Berlin official statement denies any new phase in Venezuela affairs. Germany will not advance into the interior nor attempt to capture Castro, but will maintain the blockade.
The government seized the English telephone offices in Caracas. Castro's decree calls all Venezuelans aged eighteen to fifty to arms with an arrest for traitors who refuse to volunteer. Great patriotic demonstrations continue as attempts to seize La Guaira and Puerto Cabello ports are anticipated.
Frank Fleming and Arthur Griffith of Elkhart were sentenced by Judge Coolidge in St. Joseph to twelve years in the Jackson penitentiary for assaulting Mrs. Claypool during a burglary at Isaac Murphy's home in Niles Michigan last Wednesday. Mrs. Claypool remains seriously injured.
The Edward Buescher property on East Franklin Street was sold to Charles Hassler, owner of the Troy laundry. He plans an 80 foot rear extension to the existing two story building fronting the street, with a one story cream brick addition.
In Scranton, J. C. Crawford independent operator testifies he kept his colliery running during the strike. He says most coal went to Delaware, Lackawanna and Western and that he earned 2.50 a ton for November coal and up to 20 a ton during the strike. A boy, Henry Williams, testifies he lost a leg in a mine accident and received no pay while laid up, and after returning to work his salary was used to pay his father's debt.
After a night at Norfolk Navy Yard the battleship Texas began its voyage to Culebra to join Dewey's squadron. The ship will sail without stops and is due to reach Culebra Sunday. The commander ordered the fastest possible deployment to Dewey.
