Tribute to Dead Colored Man in Elkhart
John Holmes died at his son’s home in Elkhart last Saturday afternoon. A longtime Benton Harbor resident, he lived on the Robertost farm after his wife’s death six weeks ago. Holmes’s remains were brought to Benton Harbor for funeral services at the A M E church where he was devout. Interment followed in the city. He was 25 years of age.
