Government seeks rehearing in Standard Oil Fine appeal
Chicago reports that the government filed a petition for rehearing after the federal appeals court reduced Judge Landis' $29 million fine on Standard Oil. The petition argues the Elkins Act cannot be read to require shipper knowledge of published rates and urges Supreme Court review. It details profits and argues the ruling weakens the act and upholds a strong enforcement stance.
