South Bend Officer Survives Crowd Attack Misreported Death
A rumor of a South Bend policeman being killed by tramps last night proved false. Patrolman Perrent was assaulted during an attempted arrest in the Polack quarter as six to seven hundred rioters overwhelmed him. He and a squad arrived to disperse the crowd, and the arrestee later escaped but was recaptured.

Two colored men report to police that they were forced off an east bound freight train between this city and Goshen by tramps last night. A third companion was stripped and left naked in the car. The pair, headed for Buffalo, were riding and had money in their pockets. They boarded an east bound passenger train this morning.
