The Old Popendick Brewery on East Second Street burned, with the structure a total loss. The Schadie family home was saved after occupants were dragged from a window, while Mr. C. C. Godman’s adjoining residence was saved though damaged by hasty removal. The brewery was uninsured and valued at over twenty thousand dollars in its day, with additional wheat stored elsewhere. The incident follows a pattern of recent fires in the neighborhood.
