Hawitton July 15 1874 Jno C Skinner writes to Frizxo Brousa about spasms prompting an ode linked to memories of the Big Pond region and a raging canal. He sends regards and signs off with “All well here.”
A whimsical verse extols a bull frog from tadpole to chorus master. The piece praises its bright eyes, rounded form, and altos voice as it moves from water to bogs. It humorously notes the croaks and twilight serenades likening them to goblins beating a gong.
A group of five students and companions sail from New York in spring 1850s toward the Amazon aboard a 34-person crew. A pirate ship attacks. Tom Winfred uses a smoky infernal illusion with dummies and a rescued pinnace to deter boarding, then returns to Para with the others after faking a ghostly show.
The Gazette reprints Dr Dio Lewis remarks on the temperance movement in Ohio. The piece applauds license supporters and highlights three key points by Dr Lewis. A French medical journal describes curing refractory corns with morning and evening applications of a drop of perchloride or iron solution applied with a brush. After a fort night of painless treatment, a patient tormented for forty years by a painful corn on each inner toe was entirely relieved, pressure disappeared, and the cure appeared radical. Other similar cures are reported as equally successful under the treatment.
Elkhart Circuit Court began a special term with Judge Petit presiding to handle cases not heard by Judge Woods. The major docket item is Boyer versus Bristol Hydraulic Company, a long pending case with about fifty plaintiff witnesses. the trial started yesterday and is expected to take several days.
