Assassination Attempt on Francis J. Heney Stuns San Francisco

In San Francisco on November 14 Assistant District Attorney Francis J. Heney was shot in the courtroom by Morris Haas an ex convict. The attack followed Heneys exposure of a juror as an ex convict in the Ruef bribery graft case. Heney wounded but not fatally. Haas detained after the shooting.

Silence After Shot Sparks Panic and Capture at Court

A would-be assassin fired within a foot and a half of Honey. The crowd fell silent, then chaos as people rushed doors. Foley and E J Wiskethell tackled Haas, wrestled the pistol away, and restrained him near the jury box as Honey bled at the table.

Dying statement claimed after shooting of judge Flency

Judge Flency, conscious but badly wounded, told AP that he believed his death was near and asked for his wife. He added he did nothing to provoke the attack and sought to give a dying statement while his assistant John O Gara stood nearby.

Ex-Boss Ruef Shot in Court Building Ambush

Ruef and two attorneys were escorted from the sidewalk as a shooter struck. The bullet entered the right cheek and passed through the head, lodging near the left ear. Drs Tuchter Motlit and Bunnell treated him until ambulances moved him to Lane Hospital. The incident caused a chaotic rush and police denial of entry for Ruef and his lawyers.
