Carmack Shot Dead After Criticizing Citizen
Ex Senator Edward Ward Carmack editor of the Tennessean was shot and killed on Seventh Avenue in Nashville by Robin Cooper, son of Colonel Duncan B. Cooper. Robin Cooper and Carmack exchanged shots. Carmack died instantly, Cooper was wounded and Colonel Cooper held at police headquarters.

Carmack was wounded three times in the neck breast and left shoulder with the neck wound fatal. Colonel Cooper had recently told a friend he wanted references to him stopped and Carmack would not discuss him.
