Missouri senate passes a resolution to submit a statewide prohibition constitutional amendment to voters. The measure includes a tax rider doubling the tax rate and moves toward immediate effect if the house concurs. Final vote 23 to 8. two abstained.
San Salvador reports a new decree taxing imported beer three cents per pint when bottled in addition to the regular customs duty. Existing orders placed before the decree takes effect will be exempt from the new tax.
Olympia May 6 Otis Hamilton former adjutant general was arrested by order of Governor Hay charged with embezzlement and forgery. Hamilton is accused of stealing 50000 dollars from the state military fund.
John A. Drake, before sailing on the Mauretania to France with his family, predicted the New York racing scene would improve in a few months. He said Jockey Club lawyers would act to restore racing to former popularity, and that he would not raise Kentucky horses if he doubted the outlook.
Washington May 6. Women operatives lobbying for higher hosiery duties interviewed Speaker Cannon. He urged their guide to bring the group to the Senate and let them speak while he did the swearing. The delegation later called on the president.
At Fort Myer aerodrome the army dirigible No 1 begins its first flight of the season. The motor balloon, built from Capt Baldwin’s design, speeds about twenty miles per hour and carries two crew with ballast. Lt Lahm leads the tests with Lt Foulois, aiming to cross the Potomac and fly over Washington for Congress.
A warehouse in the Denver and Rio Grande yards in Grand Junction, Colorado, holding 20,000 gallons of oil, caught fire and exploded injuring K. H. Noehes who died later. Four thousand gallons of gasoline were saved. A weather forecast followed noting showers in Illinois Indiana Michigan Wisconsin and Iowa with some clearing and colder conditions tomorrow.

Havana May 6 The house postponed indefinitely the national lottery bill amid reports the United States opposed the plan and warned that mailing tickets could bar Cuba from the international postal union. Richmond May 6 Two Negroes Joe and Isham Taylor were electrocuted in the Powhatan county tragedy related to the murder of Mrs. Skipwith and Walter Johnson.

Chicago notes rolled sleeves and collars as people flock to parks while Winona records a May high of 92 degrees. Des Moines reports a tropical sun and a fatal heat incident as Henry Blaney collapses.
Omaha records the hottest day of the year with government thermometer at 95 degrees.
A band of Canadian cowboys gathers at Lethbridge to drive 300 buffalo that escaped from a corral. Howard Douglas, national parks commissioner, leads the effort as Canada plans 1000 wild buffalo in a park on Ellesmere Island this summer.

Charles Wrightman, 21, a messenger for Adams Express Co on the Vandalia railroad line, was arrested in Terre Haute on a grand larceny charge after confessing to stealing a diamond ring valued at 150 dollars and 12 dollars in cash from Mrs. Frank Stanley where he boarded. Separately, Mrs. Thaddeus M. Talcott Jr. sues for separate maintenance, claiming her husband’s vast estate and income.
Matthew Cummings and Father O'Donnell of the Ancient Order of Hibernians addressed a sparsely attended Belfast gathering May 6. They rejected calumny against them and defended their visit, saying those against them were doing England's work.
