Secretary Cortelyou issues a signed statement declaring unqualifiedly false the rumors of undue political activity by his friends to aid his interests. He says he has sought only the public confidence in discharging duties as secretary of the treasury and will state if he decides to run for office.
West Omaha reports Mayor Dahlman says Roosevelt told him there was no secret about his press message to the people of the West. Dahlman asserts the president believed it better the panic come sooner, and he stands by his statements. Senator Tillman questioned Dahlman about a possible run for the Auains society membership.
The turbine torpedo boat destroyer Tartar achieved 37,037 knots on official speed tests and set a six hour distance record of 233 miles at high speed. Also noted is the sale of yacht Puritan for 2,650 to William O Connor of Fan River, a vessel built at a cost of 50,000.
Burrell and Morgan promote the best and cheapest feed made from sound old corn and oats while warning that new corn and oats add excess water and chaff. The home telephone office will stay open evenings this week until 8 o'clock to help patrons pay rentals.

Terry dies, a Fort Fisher commander. 1840 Alphonse Daudet dies in Paris. 1898 Italian writer “Old Sleuth” Baysley Jalsey dies.
The entry notes John Greenleaf Whittier born in 1807 in Haverhill Massachusetts and his literary stature beside Longfellow. It mentions Bolivar’s death in 1830 and his role in South American independence and Bolivia’s creation. It recalls Commander William T. R. Cushing dying in 1862 and Isaac Israel Hayes, Arctic explorer born in 1840s. It references a Russian earthquake in Central Asia with heavy loss.

Abraham Brown of Winterton New York recounts multiple doctors mislabeling his illness as heart disease kidney trouble blood poison and stomach liver trouble before his wife urged Electric Bitters. The review praises the score by Victor Herbert and the augmented orchestra, notes strong acting by William Hodge, and previews the William Hodge led Man from Home engagement at the Chicano Opera House. The Jesse James scene and the Bucklen’s Christmas program are also highlighted.
