Two Heroes by Early Elkhart Local History Told by a Former Resident
A former Elkhart resident recalls the town in its early days and a dramatic incident aboard the keel boat Constantine. After a drunken assault at a Clifton hotel, two young men are challenged to arrest twelve boats crew members. Captain Brodrick and John McNaughton lead a tense night vigil, persuade the crew to surrender, and secure a peaceful resolution with the law, ending with a public display of restraint and forgiveness.
