The Elkhart Review compiles mixed civic notes from Indiana and Washington. It cites state revenue figures, prison costs, and benevolent institutions for the year, plus political balance in Congress and a gas company dispute in Wabash. It also reviews Dr. Nourse’s lecture on Jekyll and Hyde and laments alcohol abuse’s social toll.

J M Shelley druggist promotes Chamberlains Relief and Cigar specials at Carpenter's drug store. Real estate rental offered at 115 Main Street Elkhart with 2500 square feet. Clockwise notes include gloves from Leonard & Co and a jewelry shop sale ending January 1 1889.
A jumble of small advertisements lists rentals at 407 Franklin street and The Basement under Saint Joseph Valley Bank, a dental practice at No 121 Main street, a lamp shop and other retail offerings, flowers for weddings and funerals, a prize giveaway at London Furniture Store, and two newly built houses for rent on Main Street with rents of 12 and 16 per month, all from Elkhart area merchants.
