Tragic River Fire Claims Three Elkhart Victims
Three Elkhart residents perish in a 18 hour span from Saturday evening to Sunday noon. Harry L. Hawk 33 drowned while swimming the St Joseph river near McNaughton Parlor. Harold J. Shasberger 16 and Mrs Albert Swarm 20 die in separate incidents. Shasberger drowned, Swarm fatally burned by kerosene explosion while starting a kitchen fire.

Mr Hawk and nephew Harry Hawk attempted to swim across the river from West Indiana avenue. Hawk sank after signaling for help as the nephew reached shore. Rescue efforts used a wire and hooks, with the body recovered about three o clock. Hawk, born March 4 1874 in Aurora Illinois, leaves parents two sisters and a brother. Funeral set for Wednesday at Castle U B church with Odd Fellows involvement.

Harold J. Shasberger, adopted son of Mrs. and Mr. J G Shasberger, drowned in the St Joseph river near Three Islands while swimming with Ray Woodward and Mahlon Osgood. Rescuers failed to revive him after an hour. Funeral arrangements set for 2 p m tomorrow at Grace Lutheran Church.

Horse Frightened by Automobile Causes Wreck
