New Orleans reports rising fever cases with 61 to date and 62 total deaths. Officials expect to gain control before frost as inspections tighten and the Italian district’s exits are tracked to prevent further spread.
Many residents plan to stay as the mosquito theory lingers while state health officials coordinate with local boards. Insurers continue operations though rural areas resist detention camps and Port Gibson delays freight. A city ordinance will force landlords to screen cisterns to deter mosquitoes, targeting about 50 000 cisterns.

In Valdosta a trio named G Rawlings Milton Rawlings and Jesse Rawlings faced death sentences set for September 15. Rev Rawlings proclaimed his conscience erect while Milton accepted his fate without a word and Jesse wept as a life sentence followed. Frank Turner a black man described as accessory before the fact was found guilty with mercy recommended.
A blaze that began around 1 AM at Swift and Co. in St Joseph destroyed the poultry department, said to be the world’s largest, and severely damaged the beer beds. Firemen battled the flames for hours with five hose companies on the scene. By 2 25 AM the company estimated losses at 250000 dollars.
Atlantic City New Jersey August first 1924 agreement signed between the Cutters and Flatteners union and the wage committee of the Window Glass Manufacturers association.
