Twenty-Two Coal Miners Die in Tennessee Mine Blast
At Dayton Tennessee the Nelson mine of the Dayton Coal and Timber Company suffered a gas and coal dust explosion after two firemen set blasts before all miners escaped. Twenty two men confirmed dead, twelve still inside, ten bodies recovered. several injured, including two fatally. The blast followed a blown fuse and ignited gas then dust, wrecking the mine shed and outdoor area.

They formed a partnership until January when Baker allegedly withdrew firm funds from McTeenes bank and vanished. His wife, who left him due to heavy drinking, now lives with her sister at 925 North Second Avenue. Jones did not prosecute Baker.
