During August and the first of September slight increases in typhoid fever scarlet fever and diphtheria were noted but caused no alarm. Typhoid rises are common in August and outbreaks often stem from impure water or nearby milk supplies. Ten scarlet fever cases were treated at the Isolation Hospital on August 1 and seven scarlet fever and two diphtheria cases were admitted that month. Thirteen cases of measles fever were discharged in the same period. By September 1 there were four scarlet fever cases and two diphtheria cases remaining.
