William L Ralston who promised to share a $100 legacy with the Rescue Mission and Superintendent Howard Z Sheckler has not appeared by 2 o clock this afternoon. Sheckler remains hopeful Ralston will return today or tomorrow though concern grows for the benefactor's safety. Ralston had left Philadelphia for Pittsburgh to handle business tied to the legacy reportedly valued up to $700,000.
A Brown Street Merchants Improvement Association meeting in the Kean Building advanced a plan to illuminate Broad Street with about twenty lights within two months, replacing four existing lamps. Albert C Stein was elected president and a permanent committee on better illumination was formed to pursue electric or gas options and gather dates for future action.

A chimney fire at John Kelly's 207 Geneva Street was reported around 9 am triggering box 126 alarms at Second Avenue and Erie Street. Fire crews Engine 4 and Truck 2 fought the blaze for about 30 minutes, with only slight damage. the home is occupied.
