Prison Terms for Burglars In Plainfield Court

Six months for leather thief and several defendants arraigned before Judge Atwater in the Court of Quarter Sessions. Walter Carter and Walter Baker, among five African American suspects, pleaded guilty to stealing clothing from a Plainfield house and received varied sentences including imprisonment in state prison and county jail. Others, including Edward Conover and Robert Lott, faced probation or suspended sentences. Additional pleas involved larceny of a watch and dresses leading to probation or state home placement, with further sentences to be set or arraignments scheduled.

Death claims Capt DeGroot longtime Central Railroad pilot

Captain Robert P. DeGroot born 1840 in the city died last evening at his home 4 Eqateraey Street after seven weeks illness. He served fifty three years with Central Railroad chiefly commanding the Chanceller and Kill von Kull steamers between Elizabeth and New York. Survived by wife, daughter Mrs John eerie and son Obert P DeGroot with three grandsons and two sisters. Funeral services will be held tomorrow with Es sex Lodge Free Masons in attendance at interment in Elm Ridge Cemetery.
