National Officers Address Alliance Meeting

Alleged thief silent as police link Newark arrest to Elm Street loot

Police pursue link between Tessie Sicken held in Newark and the Meeker residence robbery on Elm Street. Exiled From City Arrests For Two Men

James Touhey and William Herbert were arrested in the City Criminal Court on suspicion and told they could leave the city. Touhey was sent to State Prison for robbery. his term expired two weeks ago. Herbert, from Bayonne, was held on a prior record as police pursued safe exile.

Fire destroys Baltyard Golf Club quarters in Summit blaze

Springfield dispatch reports the Baltyard Golf Clubhouse in Summit Union County burned completely after a 1 am fire of unknown origin. Chef Gasson Feese leaped from a second floor window, fracturing both legs, as patrons escaped in nightclothes. Loss estimated at $100000 with $30000 insurance. Feese was treated at Overlook Hospital.

Engine Kills Unknown Man Near Catherine Street Crossing

Late yesterday an unidentified man in his forties was killed when he stepped in front of a drill engine near the Catherine Street crossing on the Central Railroad. The body, badly mangled and unrecognizable, bore no clues to identity, and was taken to a nearby location for examination.

Death at bier as widow faints during funeral rites

Ida Schlicher aged 48 dies at her dead friend Lanswig Gerhardt’s bier yesterday afternoon at 184 Fourth Street while attending the service. She collapsed in a back room and expired before Dr Arthur Stern arrived. Survived by son and two daughters Felix Sehlicher Mrs OK Schroeder and Miss Della Sehlicher. Funeral Monday at German Lutheran Church conducted by Rev Christian Fischer.

Edward D. Heller Sr. narrowly avoided serious harm when a car on Fitts Street struck his wagon at Sixth and East Jersey. Motorman McLoughlin Braked hard but the collision toppled the wagon’s rear and damaged the top. Heller leaped to safety uninjured as his horses remained sound.

Burns Victim George L. Hesse Dies in City Hospital

George L. Hesse, 73, who suffered burns in an accident five weeks earlier, died last night at General Hospital where he had been treated since the injuries. A resident of the city for about eighteen months, he lived with his son Louis Hesse at 154 Elm Street. Formerly of New York City, he is survived by his son Louis, daughter Mrs Emma Carlsted of Grove Street.
