In Trenton on March 24 and amid public labor concerns the house defeated the bill repealing the Meeker net for voting returns and blocked a three man in cab rule. Senate advanced civil service reform by 17 to 3 as debate centered on privacy and worker protections.
In the county court Judge Atwater presides over the State of New Jersey case against John Bosung of Rahway. Bosung faces a grave charge after an indictment by the Grand Jury prompted by Mary A Daly. The testimony spans an extended term with proceedings continuing tomorrow as defense counsel presents further duties.
In Trenton on March 2 Chancillor Magic announced the appointment of James E. Howell of Newark as vice chancellor succeeding Vice-Chancellor Pitney. Howell, of the firm Colt Howell & Barra, has accepted in letter form and offices are in Newark.
The session focused on the Baltyerot Golf Club property and the Long Branch area appeal of George Thames at 850 964 North Broad Street and 76 78 80 84 Broad Street. Major Lentz and members of the State Board of Equalisation left Elisabeth for Philadelphia trains as hearings continued.
At the Trenton Armory last night the National Guard elected Lt Colonel Nelwon Y. Dungan as colonel to command the Second Regiment Infantry. Major Ceorge L. Forman was chosen lieutenant colonel and Captain John H. McCadlona was elected major.
Jacob Voretmann died after a long illness in Germany. He had served in the armed forces for over twenty years and is survived by his wife and fourteen children. Interment will be held at a local cemetery.
Justice Fitzgerald named a lunacy commission to assess Harry Thaw's present sanity. The panel includes Morgan J. O'Brien Leopold Putzal and Peter Olney. If Thaw is found insane the trial is paused. if sane the case resumes where it stopped last Wednesday. Evelyn Nesbit Thaw appeared in court in a brown gown with a white veil. Continued on third page.
The Liederkranz Singing Society announces its grand annual spring concert to be held Wednesday April 3 at 6 15 P M in Jacoba Theatre. The program features forty musicians from the New York Philharmonic with selections by Begin Reed and other noted composers. The society emphasizes a high standard of vocal and instrumental performance in Elisabethan musical circles.
