Escaped Reformatory inmates shock Linden Township tale
Rahway March 24 A negro prisoner Joseph Robinson and a white companion escaped from the New Jersey State Reformatory late Saturday night and Sunday morning. Robinson, serving a life sentence for a murderous assault in December 1907, had been trusted as an attendant to a consumptive inmate. The pair vanished from the yard between 9 pm and 4 am, route unknown. Robinson was previously court sentenced by Judge B A Vail and had lived with his wife at the old Isaac Roll house on Sremley Point road. The escape is only partially documented by officials.
