A large Union County public hearing at the Courthouse showcased broad support for establishing a county tuberculosis pavilion. Leaders and officials from Elizabeth, Summit, Rahway, Plainfield, and other towns urged swift action, calling for State help and promising local backing.
Mayor Mearing investigated a brutal neglect case in Prospect Street where three children, five boys and a girl, were found malnourished, dirty, with bruises and dry sores. Two kids were found in the kitchen in distress as their grandmother appealed for care while their parents faced prior complaints. The mayor admitted the children to Elizabeth General Hospital and planned further action with City Attorney Contolly.
Special to the Tontmal from Cranford reports Erna Lauw rene a colored worker aged about 20 was buried under four tons of cement and roof debris when a wall collapsed during tearing down a building for the New Jersey Cement Company on South Avenue. Three other colored men escaped injury. Lawrence was removed by ambulance to Columblah General Hospital with a broken spine and body injuries. Foreman warned of the heavy roof as rescue crews searched.
The Elizabeth Public Library will remain in the old building on South Broad Street under a one year lease renewed after a conference between Warren R. Diz and library trustees led by Dr. Sehlichter. The agreement allows for possible minor alterations and more books, with a future decision on larger changes at a trustees meeting.

There was a membership of 4,444 as of January 1, 1910, up 484 for the year. The meeting adjourned after the reading.
