Howarth accompanied by William Minckler Charles Allan and Taba Binsderwald were seen near the Taleot farm when Bergman fired at Howarth and struck him with the end of his gun. A farm hand chased Minckler for over a mile. Witnesses say Bergman was excited when the men approached the Taleot farm as orchards had been robbed by others.
