Jealousy Triggers Strike at Milbury Bathing Anuts Plant
Rahway July 27 Special to the Journal. A jealousy sparked a strike by the Milbury Athletic Manufacturing Company workforce of sixty at Hamilton street. Mrs Milbury, a Cornell graduate and wife of the owner, assumed control, ousting forewoman Mrs Tons who had run the plant. Strikers gathered, lemonade and cake were served at Mrs Tons’ home, and the group issued an ultimatum for nine and a half hour Fridays with a rest on Saturdays. Plans for a large Sunday assembly were set, with management facing a tense stand-off.
