Paterson July 2. Thirty minutes after Joe Gillespie attacked Mrs Louis Fricke in Hoboken he was jailed in a county jail cell under a ninety day sentence. Police quickened action, with patrolman Burke and a real estate dealer aiding. the assailant had grabbed the woman on Park Avenue and Ferry Street as she went downtown.

The city records a season high as the thermometer tops new limits and two men collapse from heat while working. Rahway July 27 Special to the Journal. A jealousy sparked a strike by the Milbury Athletic Manufacturing Company workforce of sixty at Hamilton street. Mrs Milbury, a Cornell graduate and wife of the owner, assumed control, ousting forewoman Mrs Tons who had run the plant. Strikers gathered, lemonade and cake were served at Mrs Tons’ home, and the group issued an ultimatum for nine and a half hour Fridays with a rest on Saturdays. Plans for a large Sunday assembly were set, with management facing a tense stand-off.
Socialist leader Eugene V. Debs remains seriously ill in Rochester, Minnesota, receiving medical treatment from the Maye brothers. Mrs. Debs stays by his side as details of his trouble are not fully learnable, and access to visit remains restricted.
Elizabethe will be represented by about twenty delegates at the upcoming New Jersey State Federation of Labor meeting in Newark on May 1. The city labor organizations will send at least one delegate. William F. Callahan, who formerly represented the local group in Atlantic City, was chosen delegate to the cannon fon convention. Callahan has long been active in labor circles and holds posts with the Union County Central Labor Union, Metal Polishers, Suffers and Platers Emory Benevolent Association, and other local bodies.
Mayne Victor Mravligy announced he would appear at the Board of Education meeting at Cherry Street Public School to state opposition to the proposed heating plant bid. The board plans to receive bids and likely discuss funding for the project. The mayor criticized the committee for hiring an expert and urged bidding for various heating and ventilation options to save money, questioning the need for a $5,400 expenditure when a cheaper solution could suffice. He noted the largest city school No 1 cost little over $3,000 and urged procurement of a more economical system.
