The Singer plant opens with a revised schedule. Empleados begin at 7 30 A M and close at 4 45 P M. The change affects most departments though some areas like polish, buffing, and needle work remain on previous patterns. The prior hours were 7:00 A M to 6:00 P M with a noon closing on Saturdays.
Stephen Goldwal of 500 Bayway narrowly escaped death this morning when he was nearly drawn into a machine shaft at a chemical company. His leg was broken before coworkers stopped the machine and carried him to Elizabeth Avenue Central Railroad station. An ambulance from Alexian Hospital transported him to the institution where he is expected to recover.
