Obituary for William C. Smith of Hunterdon County

William C. Smith a well known resident of Hunterdon county died Friday at his daughter Mrs Neralain’s home in High Bridge aged 70. He helped found the Republican party in New Jersey and voted for Fremont in 1860. A former Lehigh Valley Central Railroad employee he aided in bridge construction and served as High Bridge marshal at the Civil War onset. Funeral services were held on Stonery afternoon with interment at Bloomsbury beside his wife. He leaves fifteen grandchildren and one great grandchild.
