Yesterday was payday and the crew celebrated with liquor aboard the Lehigh Coal and Navigation barge No 15 near Pier No 8. Mire Daniel Donovan about 40 was drowned early this morning after falling from the boat. her husband was arrested. A watchman and others tried to rescue her but she sank. The body was recovered near the pilings and taken to the morgue. The barge had been tied at Pier No 8 for days and the company says all hands were drinking during the celebration.
