Democratic candidate E B Smith and former primary rival Gary L Cameron announce Cameron will chair a state wide Attorneys for Smith Committee. He will arrange appearances for Smith at attorney meetings and assist in fundraising. Both men say they remain friends despite the primary race.
Nixon made a public appearance in Cedar Rapids on Saturday September 24. He was met at the airport by Mayor Robert M. L. Johnson, candidate for Congress from Iowa's Second District. He then held a 6 00 pm press conference at the Monday Inn Motel as part of a statewide campaign for county and congressional candidates.
Wartburg hosts a day long workshop for high school and college students with guidance from Dave Ramberg of the American Yearbook Company and editor John Schmelz Tencoff. Topics include layout photography finance copy and staff organization. The event is led by Wartburg officials and held in Neumann Auditorium.
Anptiar and Jasper Jeanty rest areas opened to serve travelers on interstates in Iowa. Five more rest areas across Cedar, Scott, Woodbury, Iowa, and Adair counties began operations this summer, with work continuing on three additional sites between Wilton Junction and Tinton, east of the US 61 corridor.
