The Marion Happy Hustlers 4 H club met Sept 19 at the Bilden home. Sixteen members answered roll call. New members Vera Coffin Margaret Hanson Sylvia Hanson Kendell Mark and Steven Kittleson joined. Officers elected Gary Kittleson president Wayne Anderson vice president Diana Bilden sec treas Peter Bilden reporter. Almer Amundson named head leader Bernard Hanson assistant leader. County youth leader Frank DeWolf attended and returned member record books.
Mr and Mrs Theo N Loftsgard hosted a picnic birthday supper on Tuesday Sept 20 honoring Mr and Mrs Henry Schweinerus who share birthdays on Sept 16 Others attending included Mr and Mrs Dick Griebenow and Lemna Mr and Mrs Walter Follett and Carolyn Mr and Mrs Herb Martin Mr and Mrs Henry Schweiner and Mr and Mrs L T N Olson Mr and Mrs Harvey Meyer Mr and Mrs Vernon Meyer and Mr and Mrs Will Burrow Absent were Mr and Mrs Ottte Vas bey Mr and Mrs Arthur Nelson and Mr and Mrs Millard Nelson Sr
Syria Clipperettes 4-H held a Sept 21 meeting at Iva Feller's home. Ten girls attended, pledges were recited, minutes read, and treasurer's report given. Red ribbon recipients included Ann Miles and others. blue ribbon recipients listed. Annette Meyer elected president, Jeannette Strong vice president, Tantha Strong secretary, Anita Dennner treasurer, Lynette Schori historian. Rickey Cook welcomed as new member. Next meeting at Gail Light's Oct 17. hay ride and Halloween party planned Oct 20 at Fayette for local 4-H clubs.
Town Council met in special session at the town hall on September 19 1960 with Mayor Schori and discussed municipal matters requiring urgent action. The meeting reviewed budget adjustments and utility concerns, and adjourned after formal votes were recorded.
Present were Klingman Muehlethaler Mulford and Wilson with Capper absent. Council discussed sanitary sewer items and set the hookup fee for properties along the Pleasant Street extension. Motion to adjourn carried. Mayor Leo L. Schori and Town Clerk Leo E. Friederich signed.
Elgin local notes recount a busy weekend with visiting families and dinner guests. Jerry Johnson and companions from Waterloo visited, Eva Bloomfield and Geneva Janda extended their stay, J Hogan and Louis Harris called, and Ben Erickson hosted corning visitors. Additional gatherings included Abe West’s dinner with Strawberry Point guests and Linda Walter’s afternoon callers from Lamont and Cedar Rapids.
Local residents, including Mr. and Mrs. Roy Ward Arlington and Mrs. Sheldon Boyle, hosted and visited friends from Clermont, Waterloo, Elkader, Cresco, Maynard, and other nearby towns. Several dinners, suppers, and birthday celebrations featured extended families and neighbors, with trips to Town City for check ups and travel between homes.
