West Union merchants welcome a proposed Burlington passenger train to Cedar Rapids with hopes of a faster route, improved mail service, and new terminal facilities costing at least 25000 dollars. Local officials and railroad agents anticipate the train will extend to Decorah, boosting freight routing via the BRN.
Prof Hevarik notes an ice cave six miles southwest of Elkton Brainard area. On June 10 a Decorah Institute party visited the cave on a hillside near Brainard. The small cave is four meters deep with ice on door and walls, lasting into August, temperature around 0C, colder inside.
