Copper Hatchery ends year with record chick batch

The Copper Hatchery closed mid last week after a seven month run, hatching over 402000 chicks and surpassing prior yearly production by nearly half. Much expense went to Elgin area labor and postage. Eggs yielded $16000 to farmers as Schari and Euster Lumber Co secured a building materials contract for a new Yearous farm house on Elkader West Union road for Mr and Mrs Arthur Yearous. Mr and Mrs Ray DeSart hosted dinner for son Dean on his birthday. Elgin Canning Co aims to finish the year’s work today while noting the season’s unusually steady run and similar pack to last year. H W Helms promotes pure bred Herefords for seventh straight year at fairs.
