Fine shoes and fiscal shocks in a mixed year
A jumble of 0.8 priced shoes from Holstenson's and the Chicago Record Herald mix with fiscal concerns. The postal deficit peaked above 20 million for the year ending June 80, prompting Postmaster Hitchcock to urge cost cuts to aid Taft. Coffee consumption claimed high national figures while Elgin market claims claim a large stock. Capper notes an antedated alfalfa yield dispute, correcting a previous six loads to ten per acre and expecting a further cut this fall.
