Western Tour to the Seattle Fair From Winthrop
In October 1900 the writer describes a nine hour drive of 44 miles to a steamer at Petros then a 125 mile boat to Wenatchee and on to Seattle for the fair. He notes snow on distant peaks, cascading tunnels, and views, with remarks on roads built by convict labor, the Cascades, and early encounters with salt water. The description covers Olympia exhibits, ships, and Taft and Bryan speeches, plus birthday reflections and overall impression of a western fair experience.
