A sprawling, garbled world news roundup notes Mrs Finley 3 Shepard in New York Women’s Hospital and a Detroit golf win by Mike Brady. It mentions a Cubs Phillies baseball game score 20 to 23, 1922 tax figures, railroad talk, Harding’s travels, and various accidents, deaths, and labor clashes across the US. The piece blends sport, politics, crime, and disasters in terse items rather than a single story.
Senate adopts key amendments to federal fuel bill as coal strikes disrupt supply. Violence and sabotage recur in railroad shops with trains halted and wreck attempts reported. Ford shuts Dearborn plant in protest while officials seek rapid coal movement and potential government seizure to curb profiteering.
The Chicago and Alton railroad was placed under receivership with about 1,000,000 in unpaid claims. Officials said there will be no change in management toward the strike, and if trains can be kept running an order restored, the road could recover in two weeks. Investigators and prosecutions were urged to pursue the case.
Chicago report quotes Judge Gary urging optimism about the nation. He cites opportunities and prosperity tied to production and transportation, noting continued business activity and labor income. He references Henry Ford’s proposed factory suspension as a protest against high prices.
A fragmented OCR line references Baklehebr nationalism and a capture event, with unclear names and dates. The readable portion mentions Puridsh nationalist influence and a back event in Paria or similar locale, but specifics are indeterminate and names uncertain.
