Maple Grove Sugar Company at Elgin Grows Plant
The Maple Grove Sugar and Syrup Company of Elgin, organized in April 1904 with T. J. Capper as president, Ed Rogers as secretary and manager, and C. F. Becket as treasurer, operates a maple sugar and syrup plant now employing twelve to fifteen people. The factory, with a 1200 pound daily sugar capacity and 1000 gallon syrup output, runs overtime and shows strong sales in July August and September, aided by seven traveling representatives across Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska and the Dakotas. Expansion is planned over the next six months with new buildings to handle growing stock and machinery, under the supervision of long-time processor Saul Buck.
