Federal aid to roads could lift rural links from mud
The WM. Washington Bureau notes tentative plans to invest about 200,000,000 miles of secondary roads under the federal highway act. It highlights the vital role of feeder roads for agriculture, estimates 34.5 percent of traffic on county roads serving 68,933,000 people, and stresses that the food distribution system depends on these roads. It cites rising tax revenues from vehicle registrations and argues federal aid plus state funds can improve rural highways and end wartime neglect.
