Iowa Supreme Court upholds Sunday sale ban in race with law
The Iowa Supreme Court upheld a Des Moines appeal ruling that a Sunday sale prohibition for motor vehicles is constitutional. Seven used car dealers argued the law interfered with business and was vague and discriminatory. The court found no constitutional impediment and noted the law aims to protect the public from hazardous purchases and insurance gaps. It said the law is not discriminatory since other businesses operate Sundays without similar protective requirements. In other items, the state’s point system has increased license suspensions, and UN fund director Paul Hoffman will speak in Des Moines on October 26. The State Board of Regents deferred year-round facility use decisions and considered name changes for Iowa State Teachers College.
