War veterans tax exemptions strain Iowa system
Iowa faces growing concern over property tax exemptions for veterans. Current totals show 95,956 World War I vets receiving $500 exemptions, 2,362 Spanish American War, and a few others with $1,800 or $3,000 exemptions. If half of the 200,000 World War II veterans become property owners, exemptions could rise further, forcing tax officials to consider changes to the structure.
