World’s Smearest Church in Washington Township
The smallest church in the world, a miniature chapel named St. Andrew’s, stands in Winngehick County Washington township. Built in 1885 by German families Haber and Gartner, the 14 by 20 foot structure sits four seats per side of a center aisle, walls two feet thick, and a 6 by 10 by 18 foot interior. The stone, limestone quarry locally sourced, with a staging altar and statues, has functioned as a place of worship for forty seven years and remains open to worshipers.

Onion production and surplus prompt economic concerns
In Feary county Illinois growers report 1,500 scree of onions planted, over 600 carloads shipped, and plans for several additional carloads. Total onion haul this year nears 500000 bushels as critics warn of waste from overproduction. Editorials lament reliance on money while work fades and warn it will curb labor demand. A Burlington Gazette note mentions deals on minor property and the idle pursuit of wealth amid social issues. A Red Oak sermon condemns money worship as world problems grow. A Magon City man eats 34 hot dog sandwiches, wins $5, then returns to bed, appetite gone.
