Woman Reunited With Daughter After Fourteen Years

In New York Supreme Court chambers, Mrs Avery and her 15 year old daughter Myrtle Barker stood twenty feet apart after a fourteen year separation. The case traced a long, troubled history starting with Mary Stafford, a homeless girl found in Canarsi. Father George H Stafford, later revealed as Charles S Barber, claimed to have kidnapped Myrtle in 1894 from Sioux City Iowa when she was 18 months old. The narrative involved a custody fight, a misidentified past, and a divorce leading to Mrs Avery's remarriage. The courtroom drama drew a large crowd as details emerged about abduction and family turmoil.
