Local Health Reports Encephalitis Lethargica Case in Fayette

A case of Encephalitis Lethargica, a communicable disease, was reported from Fayette county to the state health department last week. Attorney A E Sheridan of Waukon was found guilty on four counts for actions unbecoming a lawyer and suspended from practice for one year with trial costs taxed to him. Anna Koos Fayette won first in the Atwater Kent audition for Fayette county and Georgia Leonhart Wadena was second. Howard Baker of Wadena was the only entrant in the men’s division. District contest entrants were set for Waterloo on October 21.

Patricia Burkdall dies at age three after appendectomy

Patricia Burkdall daughter of Mr and Mrs George W Burkdall was born August 19 1929 in Postville and died October 12 1982 at age three years one month twenty one days after an appendectomy at a West Union hospital. Funeral services were held at the Elmer Pinney home and Baptist church with burial in Elgin cemetery. Card of thanks from Mrs Mebel Burkdoll expresses gratitude for sympathy and floral offerings.

Plans to sow legumes to cut grain surplus in 1982

Economists say higher egg prices would follow freer consumer buying as egg storage is low. Apple storage warns of skins breaking. Farmers urged to sow more legumes and divert fewer acres to grain.
