A Maynard school bus driven by Victor Steege went into a ditch about 30 am yesterday a mile and a half west of Maynard. Broken steering gear caused the accident. Several children suffered cuts bruises and two broke bones Ruth Narholz fractured right arm and Derik Steege collar bone. Twenty children were aboard the badly smashed bus on the steep bank.
The Fayette County Guernsey and Holstein Breeders' Association reported strong attendance and satisfactory prices after annual sales in West Union. Guernsey bulls averaged $35.73 with pure bred females at $66.20 and grade cows $59.18, while Holstein stock averaged near $40 with top bull at $60 and top female at $70. All cattle sold to county buyers amid stable pricing.

Ernest Holt and Gilbert Anderson left Wednesday for Chicago to attend the World fair. They returned Monday evening. Several couples and individuals visited homes or attended events including Mr and Mrs Robert Wharram of Stanley at Arthur Olson’s home. High school pupils enjoyed a vacation Friday while teachers attended district meetings.
Sewing circle met Wednesday afternoon as ladies stitched two quilts for Thanksgiving sale. Several locals, including Zdlllan Halverson and Mrs. Oscar Lien, visited relatives and attended a Ladies Aid Society meeting. Families shared meals and greetings at various homes, with many neighbors noted for Sunday gatherings and regional travel.
