Mrs Henirika Damman Lyon county s oldest resident died recently at the age of 95 She had lived in Lyon County since 1882 and her passing marks the end of an era for the community in the late 19th or early 20th century era.
Miss Beverly Alice Howard daughter of Mr and Mrs Archie Howard of Elgin wed Kenneth W Strong son of Mr and Mrs Harold Strong of Elgin in a candlelight double ring ceremony at St Pauls Methodist Church Elgin. Rev E G Steinman officiated before an altar with seandelabra and autumn flowers with nuptial music by Miss Donna Meinhard and a vocal by Miss Sara Ogle singing O Promise Me.
Miss Shirley Howard of Postville served as maid of honor while Miss Reva Medberry Cedar Rapids and Miss Anne Howard Elgin assisted. Charles Strong and Arthur Strong stood with groom and groomsmen. attendees included many relatives. After a wedding trip the couple will reside in Chicago where the groom is stationed.
The Marion Busy Bees gathered October 8 at the home of Eva Darlene and Wanda Hofer with fifteen members present. They discussed last year’s records, planned a bake sale for November 17 at Elgin city hall, and held a spelling test on misspelled words. Shirley Rainey and Barbara Gibbs joined. several mothers attended.
