New Steel In Place At The Viaduct

Work began Saturday night at the railroad crossing on No. 11 as the steel beams for the new bridge arrived. A crew installed girders during three nights, resting the structure on two new cement piers spaced farther from pavement edges. Temporary piers and the center cement pier will be removed, paving will be repaired, and No 11 will be opened, greatly easing travel into Fayette after months of detours.

Four Gallons of Alcohol Found on County Farm

Superintendent Garvey at the county farm found four gallon cans filled with a good grade of alcohol while harvesting beans. The full cans were turned over to Sheriff Nehring, potentially clearing suspicions about a prior liquor find behind the bean row.

Road Crew Repairs Damaged Pavement Near Postville

State highway workers repaired a damaged road bed in the west part of Postville and at the 18 and 52 junction west of town. Explosions last summer had damaged the old concrete, which was torn out and replaced with a new mixture.

Bremer County fair ended with a deficit as rain on opening day and poor attendance closing it out. Directors authorized by the fair board to borrow enough money to cover all expenses at a Waverly meeting held last week Wednesday afternoon.

Hiawatha Express to Pass Through Postville Friday

The Milwaukee fastest train the Hiawatha will pass through Postville without stopping Friday evening between 9 20 and 9 30 o clock. This new train will soon run between Chicago and Minneapolis according to the Herald.

Postponing a Wedding Question Sparks Editor Reply
