Fire destroys Frank Stovick residence outbuilding
A fire of undetermined origin ruined a combined store room wash house coal and wood house at the Frank Stovick home on south Second Street near Seward City Mills. The hose stretched 900 feet due to no nearby hydrant, and the contents including bedding furniture tools clothing and an old violin were lost. Stovick suffered burns trying to save the instrument. Insurance coverage reduced the loss. Stovick, longtime Elgin cigar maker and Elgin Cornet Band director, remained active in music with two daughters living in Lincoln.
