Fire losses reveal huge cost of disasters across nations
A historical notice cites fire loss per person in several countries, noting the United States in 1926 faced a record $561 million in fires, costing $4.75 per resident. Iowa fire data for 1925–27 show thousands of fires and millions in damage, with a call to reduce waste and fund national improvements. The piece includes a list of donors and residents, ending with a morale prompt about fire as both friend and foe.
